Dear Reader,

In this issue, we bring you several key updates in vaccinology and public health.

Recent research continues to advance our understanding of tick-borne encephalitis (TBE). After LRP8 was identified as a receptor for the TBE virus (Snapshot Week 46/2025), a study by Li et al. has now confirmed its role across all five TBE subtypes.

We also feature a new “real-world” randomized study showing that influenza vaccination can reduce the risk of myocardial infarction. Although this link has been discussed for decades, this study offers strong confirmation of earlier evidence.

Findings like these deserve greater visibility, especially in vaccine package inserts. While adverse events are routinely listed, protective benefits such as cardiovascular risk reduction often are not. You can read my full perspective and call to action in this issue.

As we look back on World Vaccination Day (10 November) and World Immunization Week (24–30 April), it is worth remembering their shared mission: improving vaccine awareness and literacy. This is especially relevant for those working in health-literacy initiatives.

In this week’s Vaccine Industry News, we highlight updates from Dynavax, Novavax, the Serum Institute of India, and a new partnership in Saudi Arabia. Our featured infographic focuses on licensing and outlines what physicians should know when navigating vaccine approval and distribution.

The TBE Snapshot

Snapshot (Week 46, 2025) Researchers have identified LRP8 as a key receptor for tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) viruses. LRP8 helps the virus enter human and neuronal cells, and this applies across all five known TBE subtypes. Blocking LRP8 can reduce infection and protect against disease in experimental models. This discovery improves our understanding of TBE infection and opens doors for new treatments and vaccine strategies.

Health Literacy in Asia

Promoting trust through vaccination awareness

This week, Health Literacy in Asia features a spotlight on World Immunization Week, reminding us that “Immunization for All is Humanly Possible”. We highlight key messages from the World Health Organization about the vital role of vaccines across the life-course — and underscore how strengthening vaccine awareness and trust is essential for public health across Asia.
